My pride on two wheels
BMW R80 from 1980
 |
When I met Jerry in 1994 he drove an old Honda motorbike. When we were together he bought a black BMW R80 from 1980, with
a complete body. Very nice bike! He had a helmet for me and I loved to go with him. I already had a leather jacket. We went to the
clubhouse regularly on Friday and Sundaynight and Jerry also went on Wednesday when I was dancing. However, his dream was to own a
Harley, so it wasn't long before the BMW was taken apart and given a Harley-look. Without a buddy-sit, so I couldn't come along any
more! "Go and get your own licence" was what he said to that. But I was not going to.

After a while Jerry saw an advertisement in the newspaper for exactly the same bike. We went to take a look at it. A blue BMW
R80 also from 1980, but without the body, just a windscreen. It stood there shiny in the sunshine, it just came out of the winter-care.
I was completely crazy about it! The owner was forced to sell it and regretted it very much. I asked Jerry if I would be able to ride it
if I had a licence, it seemed so big and heavy. But he thought I could. Anyway, if I bought it we would be able to ride together again on
this one. So I did and it stood next to the other bike in the garage. And I went to take lessons after all.... |

Meanwhile, it is more than 25 years old. Although it needed some revisions, it is still with me. And I have been loyal to it,
for I have my licence for 12 years now, and I never rode another bike than this one. It got a pair of cases, because that is very practical
for waterproofs or warm clothes, and the windscreen is still on it, so it looks like an old-man's bike! But it has a function!

And I love to ride it! You are so free and manoeuvrable and independent. And outside! I don't regret it at all!
