1960 NSU Quickly TAfter actually collecting the moped, or rather the stack of parts, my father and I made and initial inventory; at first glance things seemed to be quite complete, if somewhat dirty. The only problems were a whole in the rear plating, probably created to remove the rear axle in the wrong way, and a piece of plating that had been cut and bend to fit a non-standard fuel valve. When talking on the phone we discussed doing a full restoration of the bike, but after the inventory we decided that, at first, we would simple clean the parts, rebuild the bike, and drive it for some time so determine what needed to be replaced or fixed. A lot of dirt fell victim to the brush and picks; but what came to light wasn't half bad. So we happily started reconstruction. One of the previous ownershad replaced the bearings of the steering wheel, which we fixed, and the brakes needed new covers. Some parts, including a new fuel valve, were purchased from Motzke and my father completed the rebuild.
Early 2006 I shipped the bike to someone to have him do the restoration for me. The bike was still in the same state as two years before, and I simply had too many projects to do. The guy was going to do the whole restoration; I only needed to make sure he got the parts and arrange the re-chroming myself.
May 2006 I got a call; if I could come pick up my Quickly? Sure! I hopped in the car and was greeted
by a bright and shiny new bike - it is hard to imagine it's the same machine I handed in a year before.
