One of the things that kept NSU alive during World War II; the other were the motorcycles. The Kettenkrad started it's life as a light tractor for airborn troops. During the war, it showed great possibilities in many area's. It was used to lay communication cables, pull heavy loads, and it's most glorious job it got at the end of the war; as fuel became a precious commodoty to the germans, their airplanes were no longer allowed to taxi to the runway. It became the job of the kettenkrad to pull especially the new jet planes, like the ME-262 and TA183, to the start of the runway.
